@sumanta
OpenStudy (anonymous):
what do you think
OpenStudy (anonymous):
2. Points A and B lie on the graph of the equation y = −4.3x.
What are the y-coordinates for each point?
Point A: (−3,___ ) Point B: (5,___ )
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i think its b for the first one

-4.3 -3
OpenStudy (anonymous):
@sumanta are you there?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yeah
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok m i right on the first one
OpenStudy (aripotta):
that line is going up to the right, so that means it's going to have a positive slope. so you can rule out choices a and b

ok @AriPotta
OpenStudy (anonymous):
hey umm can you guys help me with second one?
OpenStudy (aripotta):
y = −4.3x
plug in each value of x and solve for y. i'll do the first one.
y = -4.3(-3)
y = 12.9
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh so im mulply
OpenStudy (aripotta):
yes

ok
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so -4.3 (5) is 21.5
OpenStudy (anonymous):
right
OpenStudy (aripotta):
-21.5
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh ok

OpenStudy (aripotta):
you can post it and tell me what you think the answer is. i'll say if you're right or not
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok
OpenStudy (anonymous):
What is the slope of the line passing through the points (–1, 3) and (4, –7)?
A. 2
B.3/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):
i think its c

(-1,3) (4, -7)
OpenStudy (aripotta):
do you know the slope formula?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i dont remember
OpenStudy (aripotta):
(y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh ok.

OpenStudy (aripotta):
so plug in the values and tell me what you get
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok
OpenStudy (anonymous):
3 - -7 right
OpenStudy (aripotta):
these are our two points (-1,3) (4, -7)
so we plug them into the formula
(-7 - 3)/[4 - (-1)]
-10/5
-2
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh ok i got it now tank you.

what does that say? y = 1/2x?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes
OpenStudy (aripotta):
and which one do you think it is?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
A
OpenStudy (anonymous):
because (1,2)

OpenStudy (aripotta):
so slope is basically rise/run. our slope is 1/2. so starting from the origin, we'll go up (rise) 1, and go to the right (run) 2 to get a second point on the line
so our line should go through points (0,0) and (2,1)
OpenStudy (aripotta):
so a is not the answer. which choice is a line that goes through those two points?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
c?
OpenStudy (aripotta):
yep
OpenStudy (anonymous):
thankn you can i give you fan in case i neeed hselp because u give directions and help me
