Q2. How might America be different if Napoleon had taken over Santo Domingo in the early 1800s?
are there any option choices?
no, sorry. Trust me if there were, i might just guess because im pretty good at guessing for multiple choice
ok
Napoleon wanted to expand French power in the Caribean. Haiti was the biggest French posession there. It had about 40,000 Europeans living in luxury supported by over a million Afircan slaves who worked the sugar plantations. When the French Revolution happened, the Europeons regoiced because they could import more slaves. The slaves got word of the revolution and were inspired to fight for their own liberty. By the time Napoleon seized power in France, the slaves were well on their way to becoming a free society. Napoleon had Tousannt , the revolutionary leader, aressted. But there was no way the French were going to reenslave the Haitians. Napoleon lost the foothold in the Caribean. French possesions in North America became too unweildy to administer easily. So the French cut their losses and sold Louisiana to the US. If Napoleon could have kept Haiti, they might be speaking French in Kansas today.
