Which phrase did Mark Twain use to describe the Gilded Age

OpenStudy (anonymous):

an era of equality for all B. a time of quiet reflection C. a generation of honest men D. a period of ridiculous excess

What Mark Twain meant by "Gilded Age" was that the era was like cheap metal that is gold plated. Shiny and beautiful on the outside, but rotten on the inside. Lots of money, new clothes, new cars...but underneath the people were amoral robber-barons. Underpaid workers, working in an unsafe work environment and living in squalor.
