state the degree x^3y^2+7x^2y^5-3xy^8
Take a look at the attachment and see if you can come up with an idea of the degree of this polynomial. Post what you get, and I'll let you know if that's what I got. Read more here: http://tutorial.math.lamar.edu/Classes/Alg/Polynomials.aspx
I got 3
3 is not correct. Think of x^3y^2+7x^2y^5-3xy^8 as x^3 y^2+7x^2 y^5-3x ^1 y^8 x^3 y^2 --> Degree of this term is 3 + 2 = 5 7x^2 y^5 --> Degree of this term is 2 + 5 = 7 -3x ^1 y^8 --> Degree of this term is what? @HugoHuynh
is it 9?
Yes, that is what I got. @HugoHuynh
answer is 21
Would you check and see if you posted the question correctly? I can't see how 21 can be the degree of the posted polynomial. @HugoHuynh
I concur with directrix
so the degree is 9
for the final answer?
Yes. How did you get 21?
oh, I add 9+5+7=21
