Substituion

OpenStudy (redneckoutlaw):

@camerondoherty y=6x-14 y=-8x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what are you trying to substitute so I can try to help

OpenStudy (redneckoutlaw):

Its in the above comment i said

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

\[y = -8x \]Plug that into the first equation \[-8x = 6x - 14 \]Subtract 6x from both sides \[-8x - 6x = -14x\]So we have this right now \[-14x=-14\]Then you can simplify this to: \[x=1\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so your substituting for y

OpenStudy (redneckoutlaw):

So pretty much the same thing? Just keeping X's on one side

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

Pretty much

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

You just solve for x by isolating x, sometimes you may have to move it to combine like terms though

OpenStudy (redneckoutlaw):

Well all problems on my home work are like those i showed you. So it shouldnt be to hard

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

And btw just to add one more thing since \[x = 1\]You can solve for y in the second equation by pluging that in and getting the solution that: \[y = -8\]So the ordered pair would look like: \[(1,-8)\]

OpenStudy (redneckoutlaw):

So pretty much like the others, just take the x away

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

Take the x away? uh idrk wut u mean by tht But it is pretty much like the others, exact same process

OpenStudy (redneckoutlaw):

Oh, ok Thanks

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

Glad to help c:

OpenStudy (redneckoutlaw):

:D YOur great. and y=6x and y-5x+7 would be (7,6)

OpenStudy (redneckoutlaw):

Right

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

Do you mean y = 5x +7?

OpenStudy (redneckoutlaw):

Yes

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

Or y = -5x +7?

OpenStudy (redneckoutlaw):

first one yo usaid

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

Oh ok, hold on lemme see...

OpenStudy (redneckoutlaw):

Ok

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

and y = 6x or y= - 6x?

OpenStudy (redneckoutlaw):

6x

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

No

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

It you got the x right, but you forgot to solve for y y = 6x x = 7 6 times 7 = x

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

I mean y

OpenStudy (redneckoutlaw):

OHHH so you gotta plug your x into the short equation to. So itd b 42

OpenStudy (redneckoutlaw):

then what

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

Then the ordered pair would be (x,y) So (7,42)

OpenStudy (camerondoherty):

Got it?

OpenStudy (redneckoutlaw):

Yes

OpenStudy (redneckoutlaw):

@camerondoherty One more question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok......
