in plant cells, what does the vacuole do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Vacuoles look like big bubbles, in plant cells. They hold things that the plant cell needs, like water and proteins. They can also store plant cell waste. The waste is broken down into smaller pieces, so that the plant cell doesn't die. Vacuoles also help the plant cells keep their structure and stay strong.

The central vacuole serves a variety of purposes, it contributes to the structural integrity of the plant cell by maintaining turgor pressure, it can store and break down some polymers including waste products, it contributes to the solute potential of the cell and helps to regulate cellular ph.
