What is photoelectron spectroscopy and how does it work???

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

photoelectron spectroscopy is the measurement of electrons emitted from an analyte. Essentially you focus a gradient of electromagnetic radiation on an analyte and measure for the release of any electrons from the material. The electromagnetic radiation that caused the electron to leave the analyte tells us about the ionization energy of that analyte. Using this data we can determine properties of the analyte which can be used further for identification or exploitation.
