i need help with three questions.. help please?? no straight answers!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a circle has its center at (-3,2) and a radius of 5 units. what is the equation of the circle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@cwrw238

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

ok the standard equation of circle is (x -a)^2 + (y-b)^2 = r^2 where (a,b) is the centre and r = radius

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, like. what is it really asking here? is the equation gonna be my answer?? or is it something else?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@iRespect

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

the equation is your answer just plug in the values

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i put (-3,2) in there?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

a = -3, b = 2 and r = 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im sorry i just started doing this and im not good with math online :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay lemme do that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x -3)^2 + (y-2)^2 = 5^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its this?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

not quite - watch the double negative its (x - (-3))^2 + (y - 2)^2 = 25 = (x + 3)^2+ (y - 2)^2 = 25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so wait.. what is the bottom equation for??

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

the bottom equation is the final simplified equation the first one substituted a with (-3) - (-3) = + 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so all that is a simplified? and would i have to use the second one in my answer as well??

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

the second one is the final answer

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

- I really shouldnt have written that first '=' on the last line - could be confusing

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

ignore it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks so much!! can i open another question?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

i would help nut i've just got called away sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay
