the helium used to fill balloons doesn't come out of the air, but from the ground. some of the gas might escape from the ground into the atmosphere, but the majority of it is trapped in the crust. give a reasonable explanation for the presence of helium in the crust. ????

In my opinion I would say that elements such as helium are type of radiation and in the crust, we have rare metals whose nuclei decay into such elements.

so to break it down... the metals in the earth's crust decay into elements like helium? @Hoslos

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not all, very few and are generally rare metals, such as Thorium and Uranium.
