is -1/3 greater then -2/9

OpenStudy (mrnood):

first express -1/3 as -?/9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No. -2/9 is larger.

OpenStudy (mrnood):

@mudwagaman9 so did that help him understand how to do it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Think about it like this: 2/9 is less than 1/3. So if it is negative it gets switched around.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I wasn't done typing... @MrNood

OpenStudy (mrnood):

He can't even know that about th epositive unles he converts to common denominator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@MrNood im a she

OpenStudy (mrnood):

@help Sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh my gosh, I did my best to help? Is there a problem? Sometimes it is easier to understand if yu know the answer and then take the steps to figure out where it comes from. That helps me!!

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

Think about it. The SMALLER the number is in the POSITIVE side, the LARGER the number is in the NEGATIVE Side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you that's kinda what I meant. @calculusxy

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

You would want to find if 1/3 or 2/9 is larger or smaller than the other.

OpenStudy (mrnood):

It might be obvious to you (and me) that 2/9< 1/3 but my guess is it is not evident to the OP

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry @help?!?!?! If I didn't help much. I don't feel like arguing on your question

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

But remember that the larger fraction, when you're dealing with positives, is going to be the SMALLER one on the negative.
