I need help solving for the identity

@zepdrix

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

There are three Pythagorean identities. Two of them are on the left side and they are reciprocals.

OpenStudy (vlery):

I know it's a Pythagorean identity but I need to solve for the left side to make it look like the right and idk where to start

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

Correct. What is the identity you know?

OpenStudy (vlery):

OpenStudy (vlery):

that would make the problem look like (cos^2)(sec^2)=1

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

Subtract the sin^2 term from both sides of the first identity

OpenStudy (vlery):

ohhhhhhhhh I got this then it would be (cos^2) (1/cos^2)

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

Didn't see your last post - that's it, exactly!

OpenStudy (vlery):

wouldn't you just cancel out the cos^2? leaving you only 1?

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

Yes, you would.

OpenStudy (vlery):

awesome thanks

OpenStudy (noelgreco):

Sure
