Evan spent 20 hours doing homework last week. This week he spent 25 hours doing homework. He says that he spent 125% more time doing homework this week. Is he correct? Show your work to justify your decision.

@dimensionx pls help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@FelicitySchimke @Jhannybean @ghuczek @KamiBug @Kit_Kat_Nat_<3 @bears55

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jigglypuff314

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@jigglypuff314 what do you think?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@FelicitySchimke

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

I might be wrong but... does 20 times 125% equal 25? if yes, then he is correct :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay! ur here!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

have you done this before?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so how I'm going to do my answer is similar to jiggles. I've had a similar question on one of my tests and got it right. So first of all there are many ways to doing this problem. A way could be multiplying hours to get the percentige. So multiply 20 by 25 and see what you get I may be wrong but just try it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

500

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

hmmm? if anything I would have thought it would be does 25 divided by 20 = 125% ? if it does then he is correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so was it right? I'm testing you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, 25 divided by 20 would be 1.25 not 125%.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes jiggle I'm testing her. She needs to be able to understand the problem before continuing to get the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do you normally figure out a problem like this?

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

@77777jeannie77777 what is 1.25 as a percent? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Jiggle would you like to explain to her how to do this problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dunno. im not sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Jiggle I just did the problem and your way wasn't quite accurate I got 0.8.

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

@FelicitySchimke you did 20/25 I said to do 25/20

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then can someone tell me the answer? or at least how to solve the problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How did you get your answer Jeannie? I realize that jiggle thank you. We cannot give you the direct answer.

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

I basically told you the answer @77777jeannie77777 :P does 20 times 125% equal 25? if yes, then he is correct :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, then he is correct. can you show me how to "show my work for the problem"?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes jiggle your way is more accurate but next time would please not give her the answer. Bye!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because i have to show my work or ill get it wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bye

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

@FelicitySchimke I did not really give the answer, jeannie had to do the calculation herself in

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah thats true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but how do i "show my work?"

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

I am personally horrible at "showing my work" :/ usually I would just put the math I did and say "since the statement is true, Evan is correct"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so then would this be good? "Evan's work is correct; I know this because 20 x 125% = 25."

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

just put something like 25/20=1.25 convert to percent = 125%

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh, ok. thanks you guys! even though i was a little confused at first, i get it now!you guys did great! :D

jigglypuff314 (jigglypuff314):

glad we could help :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

bye!
