If someone helps me with a few problems I will gift them with a $5 starbucks card.... trig help: The area of a triangle is 50 square inches. Find the length of the side included between A = 45° and C = 110°. (Round your answer to one decimal place.)

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

You don't have to bribe here :) A medal and fan do nicely, so anyways, can you draw a picture to start?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im pretty desperate.... yeah but all i get are the angles.. i have no idea how to obtain sides

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If i had a side I can apply the law of cosines or sine... but just angles with the area

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

wait, just work with me here. Draw a picture and label everything you can to start

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

how did you get a 125 degree angle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i mean to write 25

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

ok, just making sure

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

so, I'm going to add a line, I want you to label the line using a variable(you'll know which) and the angle I create bu adding the line

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

|dw:1417226332252:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooooo

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

ok, give it a try for me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

give me a sec... working on it

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

okeedokey

OpenStudy (anonymous):

still working on it

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

okee

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

|dw:1417227089224:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry i took so long.. i was applying formulas..

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

no formula needed?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got it now though.. it is 8

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

what's 8?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the answer

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

uh ok, well I haven't done it so I have no clue lol, if you show me your work I'll check it, but you do know that the line I drew isn't the side it wants right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so i got... that the side between 110 and 45 is sqrt of 2 bc a 45 degree angle is is 1,1,sqrt2

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

almost, it's 1*y, 1*y, ysqrt2

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

you need to multiply the side length of the side by the sqrt of two

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok well i applied the law of sin to get the other two sides... once i did that...i inserted it in the formula: 1/2 bcsinA.... which gave me 50= 1/2(xsqrt2)(3.144) sin45... which gave me..50=xsqrt2 (3.1444x)(.70710)... which eventually gave me x=5.639 then I just multiplied it by sqrt of 2... and got 8... which is the side it asked for.

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

so you had the wrong but you don't have any side lengths yet?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8 is the side.. it was right

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

ok, well... how you went about it, I have no clue how you got it, you don't have any side lengths and didn't find any, but if the answer is right.. ok (I'm pretty sure this glitch only works if you have a 45 degree angle, so ok)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i think u would have to see my work.... and then u would understand clearly.. but either way i arrived at the answer because of u so thank u...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so I have two other problems.. could you help me with those?

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

np, (although the strict teacher in me would probably only give 1/2 credit due to an incorrect assumption) but anyways, just make a new question and tag me.
