Unit vector is a vector which has unit or "1" magnitude and pointing at a certain direction. It is only used for defining directions then what is this 1or unit magnitude? I cannot understand?Please help

If I call v a unit vectr, the, by definition, we have: \[v*v=1,\] where * denote the scalar product

It is sometimes advantageous to separate the magnitude of a vector from its direction . This is done be expressing the vector as the product of its scalar magnitude and the unit vector in its direction.
