graph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is a graph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

looks like it could be the graph of \[y=\frac{x}{x-1}\] or sommat

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no that can't be right, but close try \[y=\frac{x+1}{x-1}\] is there a question to go along with this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok clue one there is a horizontal asymptote at \(x=1\) which means the denominator is zero there that means a good candidate for the bottom is \(x-1\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

clue two there is a horizontal asymptote at \(y=1\) that means the degree of the numerator is the same as the degree of the denominator and the ratio of the leading coefficients is 1 that is why i mistakenly wrote as a first guess \[y=\frac{x}{x-1}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

clue 3 the x intercept is \(-1\) so it cannot be \[y=\frac{x}{x-1}\] because that would make the x intercept \(0\) so adjust and make it \[y=\frac{x+1}{x-1}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

also that conveniently gives the y inercept at \(-1\) since if \[f(x)=\frac{x+1}{x-1}\] then \[f(0)=\frac{1}{-1}=-1\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

seems to fit all the bills i would go with that one

OpenStudy (asnaseer):

yes - it is correct - why did you "feel" unsure about it?
