Which of the following best describes what a thesis for a historical essay should be? a) a well-researched fact b) a summary of an event c) an interpretive claim d) an uncontestable statement

OpenStudy (flufflepuffle):

I would have to say A for the best essay.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it was wrong :/ @FlufflePuffle

OpenStudy (uchezzy):

n interpretive claim

OpenStudy (flufflepuffle):

How would it be C? You want a well researched fact to be able to prove you are right and so you know what you're talking about.

Mercury:

Because the point of a thesis statement is not to present an objective fact; it's to outline the main argument that the writer of the paper will be making "George Washington was the first president of the United States" is not a thesis statement because there's nothing to argue or support. It's an objective fact. "George Washington was the most influential president of the Revolutionary Era because of his strong leadership decisions, beliefs in personal freedom, and concern for the general welfare" is a thesis statement, because there's an interpretive claim being made about the life and influence of George Washinton.
