Please Help! What are the two complex numbers?
I'm not sure how to write this correctly.
Is it 3 and 3i-3 or 3i and 3i-3 ??
Or am I totally off?

It seems as though the information is missing.
OpenStudy (solomonzelman):
I am not exactly sure, what you are trying to do.

OpenStudy (kitkat16):
sorry wasn't allowing me to post a pic
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Do you know the coordinates of those two endpoints? :D

3,-3
OpenStudy (kitkat16):
0,3 and 3,-3
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Good.
For each coordinate (a , b)
there is a complex number
a + bi
Just turn (0,3) and (3,-3) into a+bi form and you're good to go lol
OpenStudy (kitkat16):
:( not sure what that is
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Like, if it's (7 , 8)
its a+bi form is simply
7 + 8i.
Simple :D

-3i and 3+3i
OpenStudy (kitkat16):
wouldn't it ne a -3?
OpenStudy (kitkat16):
*be
OpenStudy (kitkat16):
these were my choices
-3 and 3-3i
-3i and 3+3i
3 and 3i-3
3i and 3-3i
3i and 3i-3
OpenStudy (kitkat16):
I choose 3 and 3i-3

not sure if it was correct
OpenStudy (anonymous):
How did you get those answers?
OpenStudy (kitkat16):
they were on my assignment
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Forget those for now and tell me how you actually arrived at those answers :)
OpenStudy (kitkat16):
oh from y axis is 3i and x is 3,-3

am I reading it wrong?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Whoa, hold it, hold it....
Start with the coordinates first.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
You got your coordinates correctly, so put them up again, just to be sure...
OpenStudy (kitkat16):
(0,3), (3,-3)
OpenStudy (phi):
now add an "i" to the second coordinate (the y value)

OpenStudy (kitkat16):
3i-3
OpenStudy (phi):
you put the "i" in the wrong place (you put it on the x value)
OpenStudy (kitkat16):
3 and 3i-3
OpenStudy (kitkat16):
3 and 3-3i
OpenStudy (phi):
(0,3) becomes ?
put the "i" on the 2nd number in the pair.

3i and 3-3i
OpenStudy (phi):
yes, much better.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Aww yeah :D
OpenStudy (phi):
the main idea is the "y" is the imaginary part and "x" is the real part.
to show the imaginary part, tack on an "i"
OpenStudy (kitkat16):
so I always start with the imaginary

OpenStudy (phi):
I think (x,y) then remember the y is imaginary, so add i
OpenStudy (kitkat16):
ok thank you! I need brains like you guys. :)
OpenStudy (phi):
you'll get brains if you practice.
OpenStudy (kitkat16):
haha I never remember this stuff. my brain shuts down.
