can someone help explain the transformations on f(x)=(x^2+5x+6)/(x^2-2x-8). The parent is f(x)=1/x

hi duom cow

bye dumcow

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

First factor and see if any like terms cancel out

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

then use long division to get it into the form: \[\frac{a}{x-h} + k\] which is a transformation of 1/x a -- stretches horizontally h --- shifts horizontally k --- shifts vertically

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know how to cancel the terms out. You can cancel out (x+2) and you get (x+3)/(x-4). How do you do the long division?

medal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. So in future equations is there any way that there could be a vertical stretch?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no but i faned and medal you
