Do you think war could have been avoided in 1914? Why or why not?

JoelTheBoss (joel_the_boss):

Of course it could've. I mean, obviously the Serbian nationalists group responsible for the attack on Archduke Ferdinand could've decided to not assassinate him. Austro-Hungarian empire could've not made war an ultimatum of their 5 major concessions to Serbia. Serbia could've responded to the concessions so that war wasn't declared by the Austro-Hungarian empire. A world war could've been avoided if Germany (an Austro-Hungarian supporter) decided to just support their ally instead of deciding to declare war on Russia (a Serbia supporter) and Russia's ally, France. And had Germany stayed out of neutral Belgium instead of invading it then Great Britain would've had no reason to join the fight. The US being an ally of Great Britain made the US vulnerable to German military action, hence the Germans sinking of the Lusitania and had none of that happened then the US probably would've stayed out of the war as well. Hope I was able to help.
