What is the average rate of change from x = -1 to x = -3? (1 point) a. 5 b. -3 c. 1 b. -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can someone please explain this problem? :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, there is a graph.... :( I think you have to make an equation looking at the graph..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well i would need to see the graph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I attached the graph on the first comment.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you explain it to my why it's -1? :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

looks like \((-1,7)\) is on the graph is that right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and also \((-3,9)\) is on the graph compute the slope of the line between those to points for the average rate of change

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you know how to compute the slope, you will see that it is \(-1\) if you do not, i can show you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you show me so I make sure I know how to do it? Thanks!! :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{9-7}{-3-(-1)}\] is a start

OpenStudy (anonymous):

arithmetic after that you get \[\frac{2}{-2}=-1\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since the coordinates are (-1,7) and (-3,9) you do what satellite just said

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, I get it now. Thanks you guys it was a great help! :)
