What is the IUPAC Name for CH3CH2=CCH3

OpenStudy (alif):

The IUPAC name for CH3CH2=CCH3 is 2-pentyne.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Wrong.

OpenStudy (alif):

Oh I think I realize my error pardon me. I read the question incorrectly. But Just rereading @abb0t, I'm not sure but isn't the structure not written correctly. Because I thought carbon can only have a total of four bonds. should the structure be something like: CH3CH=CHCH3.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

You could assume that's a triple bond since there's only one C there, but the prefix is not PENT.

OpenStudy (alif):

yah the prefix should be but- because there is 4 number of Carbons

OpenStudy (alif):

@abb0t since you snuck your foot in earlier. Would you mind helping with figuring out answer. I think I just confused the asker?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

If they have any questions, they will ask.

OpenStudy (alif):

alright

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its supposed to be a triple bond
