OpenStudy (ahsome):

What does limit mean?

OpenStudy (ahsome):

I see in some equations this occurs: \[\Huge\lim_{x \to \infty}\] Or \[\Huge\lim_{x \to \triangle x}\] What does it actually mean?

OpenStudy (ahsome):

Sorry @jihna, but I don't really understand that. Could you explain in simpler terms?

OpenStudy (ahsome):

What do you mean limit of x? Does it not reach something, like limited?

OpenStudy (perl):

lets say i give you a sequence

OpenStudy (perl):

find limit of the sequence { 0.9, 0.99 , 0.999, 0.9999 , ... } the limit is 1.0 because it is getting as close to 1 as you want. With limits, it does not matter that you never actually reach 1.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

give me just a min and i will look it up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In mathematics, a limit is the value that a function or sequence "approaches" as the input or index approaches some value. Limits are essential to calculus (and mathematical analysis in general) and are used to define continuity, derivatives, and integrals.
