Algebra help. Will give medal??!!!

2. The table below represents a linear function f(x) and the equation represents a function g(x). X F(x) 0 28 1 30 2 32 Part A: Write a sentence to compare the slope of the two functions and show the steps you used to determine the slope of f(x) and g(x). (6 points) Part B: Which function has a greater y-intercept? Justify your answer. (4 points) Part A: Find the Slope of f(x): Find the Slope of g(x): Write a sentence comparing the two slopes: Part B: What is the y-intercept of f(x): What is the y-intercept of g(x): Which one is greater?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In part A, it says there are 2 functions?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

g(x) = 10x - 25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright, well first let's find the slope of the table. Do you remember the formula? m=y2-y1 x2-x1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright so the slope of first function is 2/1, or 2. And the other function already gave you the slope, 10. Does that help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so for f(x) its 2 and for g(x) its 10 right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm not good at explaining this but I just finished a unit on this. Yes. f(x) is 2 and g(x) is 10. Now I'm not sure how you're suppose to compare them, but I can show you how the steps.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Np! Need anything else?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah forpart b can you help me there too?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Alright, so to find the y-intercept, you have to subsitute 0 for x in the equation. So let's start with function g(x) since it's already in the equation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok so g(0)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

g(x) = 10x - 25 g(0) = 10(0) - 25 =0 - 25 = -25

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does that make sense? How I did that? It was really confusing for me at first.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so that's for the g(x) intercept

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes. Now for the f(x), that's a lot more work. So what we're gonna do is write an equation like the one for g(x). f(x) = -2x - b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where b is the y-intercept.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what we're gonna do is take a point from the table, let's just use (0,28). Now we're gonna plug those in to the equation and use f(x) as y. Like so 28= -2(0) + b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Good so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes ma'am!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Awesome! Okay, now you're just gonna solve as if it were any other equation solving for y. Only here you are solving for b. 28 = -2(0) +b 28 = 0 + b 28 = b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So your y-intercept for function f(x) is 28. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does that help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it helps a lot, trust me I have been stuck on this for na whole week!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haha! Oh no! Well I'm glad I could help!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that everything you needed?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lo thank you super alotsss!!!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Haha Np!
