OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

Let f(x)=-5x+3 and g(x)=6x-2. Find f*g and it's domain.

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

I'm confused....

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

If you mean f times g (not f compose g), then you have the expression correct The domain is simply the set of real numbers because you can plug any real number into both f and g, and that applies to (f*g) as well

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you had the answer assuming it was f times g (not f compose g)

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

okay I will show you what it is....

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yeah you got it right the dot means multiply

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

they'll use an open circle to mean "compose"

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

okay :D but I am not sure if they are all real numbers or if they are all real numbers except x=1/3...

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

The domain is simply the set of real numbers because you can plug any real number into both f and g, and that applies to (f*g) as well

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

there are no restrictions to worry about x = 1/3 works just fine because plugging that into (f*g) results in some real number

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

okay.....thank you!

OpenStudy (haleyelizabeth2017):

can you help me with another one? I don't really know where to start on it...

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

sure, one more
