Which of these is the best example of translational motion A: a coin spinning on a desk B: a leaf blowing across a field C: a car in a parking lot with its engine running D: a ballerina standing on one foot

OpenStudy (damonte212):

its B.

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

I think it is B. explanation: in options A. and D. a rotational motion is involved, by a coin (A) or by a ballerina on foot (D). Whereas a car in a parking, may perform some turns, in that case its motion is not a translation

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

even if your question may be more subtle: namely in the case of a coin, we observe that that coin is spinning around itself, but its center of mass is traslating uponn the plane in which the coin motion is happening

Thankyou guys

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B because the leaf is only transitioning to another spot. It's not using the types of energy/motion that @Michele_Laino explained.

Thankyou

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

@Townsend5643 Thank you!
