OpenStudy (micahm):

A sentence fragment is an incomplete sentence, usually missing the subject or verb. Example: "I hate the sky. Which is blue." The second is a fragment rather than a proper sentence. There should be a comma separating the two instead of a period. "I hate the sky, which is blue." Linking the 2 sentences with a comma *usually* fixes the problem. Starting a sentence with "because" is another common fragment. "Why did the chicken cross the road?" "Because his food was on the other side." A proper answer would be, "The chicken crossed the road because his food was on the other side." People use fragments all the time informally and for emphasis, because it's how people really speak, but they aren't grammatically correct. As long as you know when and why you're breaking the rules in fiction or informal writing, go ahead and break them. Just not in English grammar class. (See, that last sentence was another fragment.)
