compare the fertility of soil in a grassland to that in a rain forest. which soil is more fertile? why?
which one do you think is more fertile?
i wanna say the rain forest but theres no information to back it up
let me find you some information then :-)
heh yay ^.^
So, you are correct the rain forest would be more fertile. Here's direct proof : A type of climate related soil, called a pedocal, forms in drier temperate areas where grasslands and brush are the usual types of vegetation (Figure 9.11). It rains less than 65 cm per year in these areas, so there is less chemical weathering for these soils. With lower amounts of rainfall, there is less water to dissolve away soluble minerals, so more soluble minerals are present here but fewer clay minerals are produced. With lower rainfall, there is also less vegetation here, so the soils have lower amounts of organic material, making them slightly less fertile types of soils than a pedalfer. A pedocal is named for the calcite enriched layer that forms. Some water begins to move down through the soil layers, but before it gets very far, it begins to evaporate away. Soluble minerals, like calcium carbonate, concentrate in a layer that marks the lowest place that water was able to reach before it evaporated away. So this is just saying how the grasslands are less fertile than the rain forrest. You can also use this information for comapring and contrasting the best soils. The reason why the rain forest is more fertile is because all the rain the goes through the soil, lets say it cleans it, for us to cultivate!! And not many people garden/farm in the rain forest, meaning it's all left to nature, and this really shows off permaculture strength. ! I hope this was able to help you. !
Gracious!!
