OpenStudy (anonymous):

how much is 1kg.. like in general?

OpenStudy (kenljw):

1 kg is 1 kg unless you want to convert to the old English units which is about 2.2 Lbs

OpenStudy (kenljw):

K stands for Kilo which an abbreviation for a magnitude multiplier of 1000 g stands for gram a basic unit of mass which actually corresponds to it weight 1 Kg = 1000 g

OpenStudy (piptin2):

1kg is equal to 2.2046 pounds It's defined in the International System of units as being equal to the mass of the International Prototype of the Kilogram (IPK) since 1889. The gram (1kg=1000g) was originally defined in 1795 as the mass of 1 cm^3 (cubic centimeter) of water at it's melting point, making the original kilogram equal to the mass of 1 litre (~35 ounces) of water. The original IPK prototype had the mass of 1.000025 litres of water at 4°C. They found out that the mass of the IPK varies over time so now they are waiting until the next meeting to see if they redefine the kilogram in terms of a fundamental constant of nature or not. The IPK is made of a platinium alloy. The kilogram is still the only SI unit that is defined by an artifact rather than a fundamental physical property.

OpenStudy (piptin2):

In general 1 kilogram is the mass of 1 litre of water
