I have not but I can find a book summary for you if you would like. :P
The full story can be found here: http://readbookonline.net/readOnLine/296/ Whats your question though?
O_O
I read it, I just need help with answering some questions.
Haha. I assumed as much. The link was for Poke~Master314's benefit. I'd love to know the questions. I'm itching in my seat lol. :3
Oh and by the way, if no one's had the chance to say this, welcome to OpenStudy! I hope you'll like us! :D
Herer is the passage and questions.
Thank you.
For Setting: Include two or more sentences from the text in support of the locations. I put - The beginning of everything was in a railwaytrain upon the road to Mhow fromAjmir. And also My particular Intermediate happened to be empty till I reached Nasirabad, when a huge gentleman in shirt-sleeves entered, and, following the custom of Intermediates, passed the time of day.
Can anyone help or no. I'm not looking for you to do it with me but help me find the answers.
Okay. Sorry I was just reading all of that. Yes, what you've posted is correct.
Now, I can't find any specific time mentioned, but I would say that the names of certain locations hint to the time period.
I guess the time period and setting is important and connects to the characters because it sets a background. The time and place can affect how a character speaks or behaves, and it can effect what the character wears. It kind of sets the tone for what kind of culture the character is living in.
For - Explain the connection of setting examples to the characters. I got "There had been a deficit in the Budget, which necessitated travelling, not Second-class, which is only half as dear as First-class, but by Intermediate, which is very awful indeed.
And the other, I'm trying to find.
Your right.
Beautiful! And thanks! *blush*
Can you help me find the other example of setting.
Maybe: He leaves Delhi on the 23rd for Bombay. That means he'll be running through Ajmir about the night of the 23rd. or But I'm going into the Indian Desert
Right, or Then I headed for the Great Indian Desert upon the proper date, as I had promised, and the night Mail set me down at Marwar Junction, where a funny little, happy-go-lucky, native managed railway runs to Jodhpore.
Yes! Okay, whats next?
Oh wait that's the samething. The next thing is Explain your response to the setting examples.
Oh. We're on that. I actually didn't quite understand what they meant by that. O_o ?_?
I didn't get that too, but first, for Explain the connection of setting examples to the characters. I put that there was a deficit leading to the lower class people having to travel by intermediates.
I guess. Yeah. I think that works.
It doesn't sound good does it?
Well, I never said that... :o But, I can't think of anything better, so lets roll with that, lol.
Haha, okay.
Well, the next question would be - Include two or more sentences from the text in support of the time period.
Okay. So I didn't see anything specific that hinted to a time period. I saw that it was somewhere near the end of the month, they are in India, there's a reporter, I know its sometime in the past. But, I'm really not sure. It seems kinda modern day, but modern day in India... with kings? And Englishmen lol. Okay I know, I'm not helping much.
That's okay, I was having problems with that also, I guess that's why I came on Open Study. For Characters: Include two sentences from the text to describe each main character: Daniel Dravot, Peachy Carhehan, Narrator (Kipling)
I got, He's a big man with a red beard, and a great swell he is. You'll find him sleeping like a gentleman with all his luggage round him in a second-class compartment.
The only thing is that I don't know who that person is.
Okay ~Daniel Dravot~ My particular Intermediate happened to be empty till I reached Nasirabad, when the big black-browed gentleman in shirt-sleeves entered, and, following the custom of Intermediates, passed the time of day. He was a wanderer and a vagabond like myself, but with an educated taste for whisky. Englishmen are not usually softened by appeals to the memory of their mothers; but for certain reasons, which will be fully apparent, I saw fit to agree.
Oops! Nevermind that's wrong! I got the wrong person!
How did you find out the names?
Here: I led from the press-room to the stifling office with the maps on the walls, and the red-haired man rubbed his hands. "That's something like," said he. "This was the proper shop to come to. Now, Sir, let me introduce you to Brother Peachey Carnehan, that's him, and Brother #Daniel Dravot#, that is /me/, and the less said about our professions the better, for we have been most things in our time--soldier, sailor, compositor, photographer, proof-reader, street-preacher, and correspondents of the 'Backwoodsman' when we thought the paper wanted one. Carnehan is sober, and so am I. Look at us first, and see that's sure. It will save you cutting into my talk. We'll take one of your cigars apiece, and you shall see us light up."
I think this link might be helpful for figuring out who is who: http://www.enotes.com/topics/man-who-would-king/characters
Too be honest, I am a little confused. I'm probably over thinking it.
Confused about the characters or the project? Or something else? Maybe. Sometimes a nice cup of hot chocolate or hot tea can help. :3 ;)
So, Carnehan is sober, and so am I. Look at us first and see that’s sure. Daniel - and the less said about our professions the better, for we have been most things in our time--soldier, sailor, compositor, photographer, proof-reader, street-preacher, and correspondents of the 'Backwoodsman' when we thought the paper wanted one. The narrator - I don't know Correct?
No kidding about the hot chocolate, sounds good right now.
Yes. You can really pick anything for the narrator because he's been the one telling you the story.
Oh okay.
Is there anything else you urgently need help with? Because I sorta have to go... well I don't have to I just really, really wanna go do something. :3 So, tell me now or forever hold you piece lol. If you need more help and I can't help you today, then I'll definitely help you Monday.
Thank you for you help, i'll finish it. Bye
Tootles! :)
