a team of divers assembles at an elevation of -10 ft relative to the surface of the water. Then the team dives at a rate of -50 ft/min. Write a rule that represents the teams depth d as a function of time t. what is the teams depth after 3 min?

OpenStudy (homeworksucks):

Well the initial starting height is -10 feet, or 10 feet below the water, right?

OpenStudy (homeworksucks):

And since the time elapsed changes and is independent of the distance traveled, let's call it t. If you have covered function notation I would be describing depth as a function of time, or d(t)-how depth progresses with time

OpenStudy (aaliyahfairgood):

distance=rate times time d=50t minus the starting point, -10ft (ignoring the negatives, assuming that there isn't such thing as a negative distance except time travel) t=3min. so d=40t => d=40(3) d equals 120 At least I am pretty sure it is

OpenStudy (homeworksucks):

The rate at which depth changes as time progresses is 50 feet every minute

OpenStudy (homeworksucks):

So we start at Depth=-10, and go down 50 feet a minute for Depth(I guess elevation would work more)=-10 feet-50t --We go down 50 feet a minute.

OpenStudy (homeworksucks):

So our equation is D=-10-50t

OpenStudy (homeworksucks):

Then just substitute 3 in for t so \[-10-50(3) ft\] \[-10-150 ft\] \[-160 ft\]

ok thanks
