Often newspapers, magazines, and Web logs are lumped into one group called "the media" or "the press." It is discussed as if it were an entity. The "media," however, does not just run itself. There are people with their own interests, favorites, and agendas behind every piece of news and advertising. Because of this, nothing in the media is one hundred percent objective. This, more than anything, is something that you need to keep in mind when you are analyzing and evaluating media of any kind. The following are sources of media in the United States: agencies networks (radio and television) publication companies/presses individuals Behind every piece of news is a person (or group of persons) with his own likes, dislikes, political and religious beliefs, spending habits, hobbies, and concerns. It's important to remember that all of these personal preferences may find their way into the media that you see and hear daily. Sometimes, it's difficult to detect how much a person is present in the media he presents. Other times, it's blatantly obvious. As you progress in this unit, you will learn more about how to detect these sorts of personal interjections and what to do with them.
