Hello: I was wondering if someone could remind me of what systole and diastole are (this is related to how the heart works, from a course I took recently). Thank you very much in advance! Blessings
Hello again: Sorry, I realize I can simply go to Wikipedia and find my answer. I'll just do that...
Just to say I believe this may answer my question: * systole = contraction, i.e. blood goes out (usually of the left ventricle [ventricles are the lower [and larger] chambers in the heart, while the atria are the upper chambers]) * diastole = heart refills with blood following systole Regards
You got it right. Systole is basically the phase of the heartbeat when the heart muscle contracts and pumps blood from the chambers into the arteries. And diastole is the phase of the heartbeat when the heart muscle relaxes and allows the chambers to fill with blood.
I learned about the circulatory system in my Biology system so I know a little about the the cycle of blood, the different veins, and some of the parts of the heart. If you have another question you can tag me. :P Annd I just wanted to let you know that questions like these can be asked in the Biology section, which is a more active section where you have a higher chance of getting your question answered quicker.
Thanks for your feedback and advice! Best
