A cell phone company offers a basic monthly plan that charges $20 for the first 60 minutes and $0.05 per additional minute. If you budgeted $60 to spend on your cell phone bill for the month, how many minutes can you use?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

20+.05x=60 Solve for x

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Whatever you get for x, add 60 minutes to that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The first thing i did was remove the 20$ from my budget. So i have 60 minutes and 40$ left. Then I get .05x = 40 Solve for x then add 60 minutes from the begging

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got x=800 ... is that right

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Yes!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

beginning*

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Now add 60 and that is your total number of minutes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Omg thank you so much. Can you help me on my other math problems ?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Sure!

Point P (a, b), where neither a or b is equal to 0, is subject to the following operations, one after the other in any order: reflection about the x-axis, reflection about the y-axis, reflection about the origin. What will be the final position of point P?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Since point P can be at any point except where a coordinate is 0, let's us 3, 3 to make this easier. |dw:1418346135667:dw|

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Pick one thing to do first.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do you mean when you say pick one thing to do first ?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

is subject to the following operations, one after the other in any order: reflection about the x-axis, reflection about the y-axis, reflection about the origin.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lets do the reflection about the x-axis first

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Ok can you show me where you think the point will be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-3,3)

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Yes! |dw:1418346383413:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:) . So then i reflect it on the y-axis ?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Yep, where do you think it will be now?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(-3,-3)

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Yes! |dw:1418346521526:dw|
