OpenStudy (anonymous):

what are two reasons why an experiment might not support a hypothesis even when the hypothesis is correct?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Well, what examples did you think up?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Even if the hypothesis is correct, the experiment itself could have been messed up somehow. Maybe a piece of equipment being used in the experiment malfunctioned and came up with the wrong number. Maybe the person doing the experiment forgot to have a control group when they really should have had one. Anything could have happened to mess up the experiment. The hypothesis may be supported by the results of the experiment, but because the experiment was not carried out correctly, the hypothesis is technically incorrect.
