http://tinypic.com/r/34o7k3c/8 find lim x->3+

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@wmj259

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Possible answers: 7 1.5 Does not exist 2

OpenStudy (wmj259):

Okay so your looking at the limit at the point 3 from BIG NUMBERS (Or FROM THE RIGHT SIDE). Yes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, if its 3+ then it's coming from the right side.

OpenStudy (wmj259):

the limit of a function means that without doing any calculations what the does the line seem to approach from left/right The f(x)= means that when you plug in 3 into the unknown function you'll get a point, which is the one at (3,7).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the answer is 7? But it's going parallel with the x axis?

OpenStudy (wmj259):

No its not 7.

OpenStudy (wmj259):

If you looked at that line coming from the right, and you followed it to 3. what do y-axis do you think it would approach?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It would approach y = 2

OpenStudy (wmj259):

Thats it.

OpenStudy (wmj259):

NOW if they asked you what the f(x) at 3 would be, what would be your answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what would it be at 3-?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that what you're asking? 3- would be going towards 1.5

OpenStudy (wmj259):

Okay let me start again

OpenStudy (wmj259):

Scroll down to the part where theres a graph

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay I'm there

OpenStudy (wmj259):

So f(3)=7. Right? BUT we are not looking at that, we are looking at from visually guessing. "What does the line seem to be approaching".

OpenStudy (anonymous):

As 3- is approaching 3, the limit is 1.5?

OpenStudy (wmj259):

Yes.

OpenStudy (wmj259):

But your looking for 3+. Which would be ____?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

As 3+ is approaching 3, the limit is 2?

OpenStudy (wmj259):

Yes.

OpenStudy (wmj259):

Is this a homework question? Can you tell me if you get your answer back immediately?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you for explaining it! It's homework, so not immediately.

OpenStudy (wmj259):

Okay, just wanted to know if I was right.

OpenStudy (wmj259):

Hope I helped you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@wmj259 It was right!

OpenStudy (wmj259):

Thanks, I'm in Calc3 now, And I had a great Calc1 professor. Gotta help out the world ;).
