Anyways, the early Chinese spoke different variations of the same language. So, the emperor decided to make it easier for everyone to understand each other. Each symbol would mean the same thing through China, even though people would read it in different ways. For example, take the symbol for bird. Everyone knows it means bird, but the different speakers would read it in different ways.
