OpenStudy (gnrfan):

I need this quadratic in standard form. f(x) = 2(x - 12)^2 + 6

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

@MARC_

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

@mondona

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

i give medals

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

@phi

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

someone...

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

ill help if your still here.

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

its actually really simple. distribute, and combine like terms.

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

im here

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

2(x - 12)^2 + 6 2(x-12)(x-12)+6

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

distribute from there

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

is that the standard?

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

no not yet.

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

How do i distribute?

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

... the distribute property. Like you would do any other day. lets first distribute out the (x-12)s...which is (x-12)*(x-12) Can you do that? Heres a hint on starting... (x*x)+(x*-12)+ ...distribute from the parenthesis (x-12)(x-12) from there..i started it for u

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

Does this step make sense?

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

2x^2-48x+294 ?

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

(x-12)(x-12) (x*x)+(x*-12)+ (-12*x)+ (-12*-12) x^2 -12x-12x+144 x^2+144 is what I got when I distributed them.

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

Would it be cheating if i checked it on mathway?

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

no wait! i subtracted it wrong... x^2-24x+144 .... is this a quiz? or quick check? Idk... it depends on the teacher.

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

its part of an assessment

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

the scientific calculators that they give us (for connections) will actually solve these problems for us... It could not mean anything, just as long as it is only checking your answer. you should at least try it on your own-but i dont know what online school you're doing so im probably not the one to ask.

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

dang. I'm on FLVS if that helps.

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

no idea. lol. im all the way in WI sir. xD just try it. Trust me, its not even that hard-this is the easy stuff.

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

Im reallhy bad at algebra 2

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

really*

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

Also the quadratic form is based off my birthday so could it be a possibility that it doesn't work?

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

2(x^2-24x+144)+6=y that is perfectly fine. I sucked too...but it all started making sense when I started asking why we were using all of these methods. what the math really all meant and how it applied to the real world...instead of just how it applied to the grade. Im helping you. And gosh darn it, I will do all in my power to help you understand this! Don't give up. Calculators are only for checking. :)

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

Question-Do you know how to distribute, or is it confusing?

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

confusing

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

everything is confusing most of the time

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

No, whoever you are. I don't think your cursed. lol. xD Okay...hmm... Do you have a skype, or would u prefer I break it down via here? You shall not be confused anymore!

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

no skype :/

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

I checked mathway, 2(x−12) (x−12)+6 rewritten in standard form is 2x2−48x+294. I WAS RIGHT :D

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

what happened to that...

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

Ok then. You obviously know how to distribute if that is the case.....erm its just being weird. thats just open study...in a lil bit itll become readable.

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

yea lol

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

i have one more that i have no clue what it even means

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

okay. shoot.

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

Using complete sentences, explain how to find the average rate of change for f(x) from x = 4 to x = 7.

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

Erm. Haven't seen this in my lessons... Have you heard of Khan Academy? https://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra/linear-equations-and-inequalitie/average-rate-of-change/v/average-rate-of-change-example-1

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

As for making complete sentences...its math. they're not asking for a paragraph. just say the answers in complete sentences by saying numbers numbers numbers is the average rate of change for f(x) from x=4 to x=7.

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

k. i have a graph for it that you can look at

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

ok. Ehh. I doubt I'd be able to help much with this.

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

ill attempt tho.

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

watch the video its pretty straight forward though

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

f(x) = 2(x - 12)^2 + 6

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

google that and itll come up

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

you mean the link that I gave you, you want me to watch?

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

okay ill google it...

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

yes

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

ok...the formula to find slope m, is y2-y1/x2-x1 how to find the average rate of change for f(x) from x = 4 to x = 7. look for x=4 to x=7 on the graph...and... i think thats the same as saying x is greater than or equal to 4 or less than or equal to 7...check it out on the graph....between those x's.

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

I think that you should see the y values when x=7 and x=4...when looking on that graph...then figure out the slope using the formula i just gave ya.

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

are you following or did I loose you?

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

but then again...i have do no idea if this is right lol.

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

im lost in this terrible labyrinth called math

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

Give me the link to your textbook. tell me the chapter, and lesson this crazy stuff occurs in.

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

Or screen shot it and save it to a doc

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

I'm sorry, but is the rage of change 4<x<7?

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

eh nah. it doesn't....but is he rate of change 4<=x<=7?

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

those equation signs means or equal to.

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

k. im about to just go with that. can you explain how you got this

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

I took the numbers....x=7 and x=4...assuming i had to go between them and assumed that the relative thingy is in between those x values... sorry im absolutely NO HELP.

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

yu helped at first but this is just insane

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

yerp. lets just call it a day and blaim the government.

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

this is why im gonna work at a grocery store

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

THANKS OBAMA!

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

Oh don't say that. come'on now. Don't give up. I totally beieve you can do it...just look over your textbook and watch video tutorials to explain it like a teacher would... and Omygosh lol. Yes! Curses to the government. *raising a communist flag* (too far;))

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

dang commie

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

does it matter if i give you a medal or whatever

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

nah. i didn't earn it lol. that would be cheating. But remember my tag, as usually math is my thing. I may or may not be able to help you. I've never seen this stuff before tho, and im also in alg 2.

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

k thank you, you did help

OpenStudy (britanyashton):

k may the force be with you, stranger! live long and prosper on your journey through his third dimension!

OpenStudy (gnrfan):

k then lol
