I have a question regarding the notation of a basic circuit in a circuit analysis text, regarding positive/negative signs and convention. More information posted below shortly.

What I don't get are the flipped/opposite positive and negative orientations by that 25 Volt ideal independent voltage source. Why are there two separate positive/negative sign pairs?

That is puzzling. Hopefully in the text they will explain that. From just the diagram alone it seems that the voltage Vx is the inverse of the independent voltage source and is going to be adjusted by a factor (some Greek letter that I can't recall the name at the moment) and used to control the dependent current source. That is just an opinion lol.

Yeah, no, you are right numerically about the other thing, that's exactly what it is, just dunno about that other bit.
