What is the difference between the maximum sustained yield( MSY) and the optimum sustained yield (OSY) in fishery management? MSY takes into account all the interactions between species where OSY does not. OSY looks only at the maximum numbers that can be harvested while MSY looks at the maximum and minimums. OSY looks at species interactions with respect to fish harvesting while MSY looks at maximum numbers that can be harvested. OSY and MSY look at the species interactions as well as the maximum fish that can be taken from the sea. OSY and MSY

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

MSY is theoretically, the largest yield (or catch) that can be taken from a species' stock over an indefinite period.

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

optimum sustainable yield is the level of effort that maximises the difference between total revenue and total cost.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so which one is the answer?

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

id est quaestio

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

i think OSY and MSY look at the species interactions as well as the maximum fish that can be taken from the sea.

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

it would be most logical

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thankyou

OpenStudy (praetorian.10):

my pleasure
