Why was the Great Migration such an important part of the Progressive Era? It showed the shift from an agricultural based-economy into an industrial- based economy. It showed the shift of political tolerance of African Americans. It showed that all African Americans preferred to live in the South. It showed that the North and South had equal opportunities for African Americans. It showed that African Americans finally had equal rights with whites.
Okay. The Great Migration was a time, shortly after slavery had been abolished in the South, when many freed African Americans began to migrate to the North (big cities). Why do you think they moved?
Start by eliminating any answers you know aren't correct.
B definitely isn't correct, b/c the freed African Americans were LEAVING the South. Obviously, that means they didn't want to be there anymore. Also, C is incorrect because it states that they had no reason to leave the South.
If they had a reason to leave the South (which we have established by saying B and C are incorrect), that means D is also incorrect, otherwise they could stay in the South with equal opportunities. Thus, the answer is A - it showed a shift in political tolerance. Poorly worded sentence on their part, but I think they were trying to say that the African Americans got sick of the Jim Crow laws and Black Codes trying to undermine the new amendments that had freed them. So they went to the North to find jobs.
uhhh what he said XD
