six and one fifth plus negitive four and three fourths equals

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[6\frac{ 1 }{5 }+(-4\frac{ 3 }{ 4 })\]

OpenStudy (tanner23456):

so your equation will look like this right? 6 1/5 + (- 4 3/4) I like to get them in to improper fractions. It's easier to work with them 31/5 + (- 19/4) which is the same as 31/5 - 19/4 now find a common denominator -> 20 31 * 4 = 124, 5*4 = 20 19*5 = 95, 4*5 = 20 124/20 - 95/20 = 28/20 simplify -> 7/5 now put it back into a mixed number 1 3/5
