you have to fill :-
y-y1 = m(x-x1);
OpenStudy (anonymous):
im confused on how to do that
OpenStudy (anonymous):
y1=6 then you go to the see what the x is belong to y1=6
OpenStudy (anonymous):
y1?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
then you find (x1,y1)

just symbol y1
OpenStudy (anonymous):
im so confused. im so sorry
OpenStudy (anonymous):
o.k lets begin from start
OpenStudy (anonymous):
okay
OpenStudy (anonymous):
you have somthing like that
y -6 = (x- )

yes
OpenStudy (anonymous):
the linear function =
y -6 = m(x-x1)
the point that substitue in this function is (x1,6) and m is the slope
OpenStudy (anonymous):
okay
OpenStudy (ganpat):
Slope for the line is given by
m= (y1-y)/(x1-x)
where yx1,y1 are the points on the line -6,6
now calculating slope of the line... i.e. m
consider any 2 points on the line (refer graph)
(-6,6) and (-10,-2)
therefore, slope will be m = [-10 - (-6)]/ [-2 - 6] = -4/-8 = 1/2
so you have m = 1/2, (x1,y1) as (-6,6) and the formula
m=(y-y1)/(x1-x)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
okay now i am even more confused then i already was O.O

you can look in the attached picture an tell me what
OpenStudy (anonymous):
the Point is at -6,6?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
depending in the linear function in picture what (x1,6) when y=6
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yea
OpenStudy (anonymous):
when find x1 in the linear function
y-6 = m(x- (-6)) =

OpenStudy (anonymous):
then we left to find m or the slope
OpenStudy (anonymous):
(-6,6) is te point
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so i need to find the slope?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes and you solve the problem
OpenStudy (anonymous):
let's take 2 points (-8,2) and (-6,6)

can you find the slope from these 2 points
OpenStudy (anonymous):
would the slope be -6?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
or -1?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
delta {y}/delta{x}
(6-2)/(-6 -(-8)) = 4/2 = 2
OpenStudy (anonymous):
delta?

delta{y} = y1-y2 // y1 y in first point and y2 is the y in second p[oint
OpenStudy (anonymous):
\[\Delta{y}/\Delta{x}\]
OpenStudy (anonymous):
im not quite understanding...
OpenStudy (anonymous):
what the slope mean do you know ?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
it's mean the rate of change in y dpending on change of X

and calcualte him (slope ) = (y1-y2)/(x1-x2);
// the order is imporatnt
OpenStudy (anonymous):
2/4
OpenStudy (anonymous):
?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
4/2 , the y is up and x is down

(-8,2) (-6,6)

this is the 2 points (x,y)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so how would i put that into the equation?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
y-6=4(x-2)?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
we know that the point that choosed is (-6,6)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so it would be Y-6=4(x-(-6))?

OpenStudy (anonymous):
no :D
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ughh
OpenStudy (anonymous):
the slope is 2 not 4
OpenStudy (anonymous):
when we say
6-2/(-8 -(-6)) = 4/2 =2;

so it would be y-6=2(x-4)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
y- 6 = 2(x+6)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
the point (4,6) not inthe line
OpenStudy (anonymous):
the line dont decripte it (4,6)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
but the equation has a x- i cant change it to x+

we choose inthe formula the point/points the line descripte them
OpenStudy (anonymous):
formula of the linear with (-)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
the formula of the linear function
y-y1 = m(x-x1) // m slope , and (x1,y1) points IN THE LINE
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so it would be y-6=2(x-6)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
(6,6) not point inthe line

there is minus from the fromula itself
OpenStudy (anonymous):
and the x is negative then the formal will be
y-6 = 2(x+6)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ask any question dont hesitate
OpenStudy (dan815):
y – 6 = (2-6)/(-8-(-6))(x –(-6) )
OpenStudy (anonymous):
it was y-6=2(x-(-6))

OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes this right answer
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yeah i found that out after i submitted it....
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i kept getting confused because you put x+6 so i didnt add the negative..
OpenStudy (anonymous):
you know now the answer ?
