Mr. Jackson will announce the student he selected during today's Math Club meeting. The meeting starts at 11:30 a.m. and ends at noon. The exact time of the announcement will be completely random. Why is the time of the announcement an example of a continuous random variable?

The information here will be helpful to you: http://dept.stat.lsa.umich.edu/~ionides/425/notes/continuous_rvs.pdf

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

ok thanks, i read it , so could i say the time of the announcement is an example of a continuous random variable because it take any value in the interval of a day and continuous random variables are used to model time and length?

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

* can take

OpenStudy (kropot72):

" it can take any value in the interval of a day.....". This should be replaced by "it is not possible to define the exact time, the reason being the completely random nature of the time which has infinite precision."

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

ok so this sound better: The time of the announcement is an example of a continuous random variable because it is not possible to define the exact time, the reason being the completely random nature of time which has infinite precision

OpenStudy (kropot72):

Looks good to me.
