OpenStudy (brucebaner):

Which of the following best describes the ordered pairs listed below? (-5, 2), (0, -3), (5, -8), (9, -12) function only both a relation and a function relation only neither a relation nor a function

OpenStudy (brucebaner):

@DanJS

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

its definitely a relation is it a function?

OpenStudy (danjs):

For it to be a function, you want each of the x values to map to only a single y value in each (x,y)

OpenStudy (brucebaner):

i think its both a relation and a function

OpenStudy (danjs):

yep

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

correct

OpenStudy (danjs):

if you plot those points, and sorta connect them with lines, Test if it is a function by scanning a vertical line across the graph. if the vertical line intersects the graph in more than one place at a single time, it is not a function

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

that's the exact same thing as looking as making sure the x's are with only one y but lots more work...

OpenStudy (danjs):

so having two of the same x values mapping to two y values, means a vertical line would have 2 points on it, and not be a function

OpenStudy (brucebaner):

the for helping me
