anyone up to help a clueless person with a geometry portfolio ??? please ???? attachment included
There's a lot here. Which ones are you referring to specifically?
1 and 2 about subsets for sure
A set is simply a collection of things. With math, those "things" are usually numbers, but sometimes variables could be involved. A subset is a set that is contained within another set. For example Let's say we had this set here: {1, 2, 3, 4, 5} A subset could be {3, 4, 5} because 3, 4 and 5 are all in the set above. Another possible subset is {1, 3, 5} because every number in that smaller set is also in the bigger original set making sense?
i thought it made sense but then i lost it so its not the middle numbers ?
what do you mean by "middle numbers" ?
sorry nope i read that wrong . i thought you just took three numbers from the set but no i was wrong
I just took numbers that are listed in the set {1, 2, 3, 4, 5} any numbers will do (as long as they are from the set above)
it could be just 1 number, could be 2 numbers, 3 numbers, etc etc all the way up to all 5 numbers
problem #1 says which is a subset of {..., -6, -4, -2, 0, 2, 4, 6, ...}
then it list possible answers choice B is NOT a possible answer. Why not? Because -3 is NOT in the original set. The original set is listing even numbers. So hopefully you see why {-3} is not a subset of {..., -6, -4, -2, 0, 2, 4, 6, ...}
well yes i see that its not in the first set but the other multi choice dont make sense
which one
A isnt it bc there isnt a 1 in the original set cant be C bc there is no 2.5 and D THERE IS ANO 8 IN THE ORIGINAL SET....RIGHT?
well there is no 8 in {..., -6, -4, -2, 0, 2, 4, 6, ...} BUT the dot dot dot tells us to continue the pattern forever. So we will keep adding 2 forever as we list numbers to the right. We can't list them all because they go off to infinity
I didn't know that ...
so even though 8 isn't explicitly written down or shown in {..., -6, -4, -2, 0, 2, 4, 6, ...} it's actually in the set since we can easily write out more terms {..., -6, -4, -2, 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, ...}
yeah it's like it trails off...
That's how I see it anyway
so i see that its D bc the pattern continues
yes, it continues on forever
okay i get it thank you
no problem
now that you know about subsets, do you know how to answer #2 ?
yes it C right bc its all states
correct
woo :)
okay I can get the rest.. thank you very much for your help!!!!!!
you're welcome
