Two students in your class, Tucker and Karly, are disputing a function. Tucker says that for the function, between x = -3 and x = 3, the average rate of change is 0. Karly says that for the function, between x = -3 and x = 3, the graph goes up through a turning point, and then back down. Explain how Tucker and Karly can both be correct, using complete sentences.
Please help by explaining why they can both be correct, I need some help...
what does "average rate of change" mean?
Well its the change in the value of a quantity divided by the time @jim_thompson5910
in this specific case, it means "change in y over change in x" so that's the same as the slope
yea
just dont understand how they are both correct.
so is it possible to have line with a slope of 0 go through those two points and have the curve turn around somewhere in between
Ohhh, so If i graph it it will look similar but a little different?
can you draw out what one case may be?
Yes, just a second... I will try, I am slow with math
there's no rush
|dw:1419295095990:dw| Would it look like this??? I am pretty confused
