Solve the system of equations. x + 3y = -1 2x + 2y = 6 Choices: (-4, 1) (2, -1) (4, -1) (5, -2)

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Are you asked to use a specific method?

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

x+3y= -1 can u solve for x @love12609784

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no it doesnt ask me to use a specific method..

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Then this is what I would do. 1) divide the second equation by 2 2) subtract the new second eq from the original first eq

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

The x's will cancel and you can solve for y. Then plug in y into one of the original equations to find x.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Of course, you can also follow @Godlovesme 's suggestion above and solve the first equation for x, and use substitution.

Alright thanks :)

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

yea i just love the substitution method lol ;D but ur method is easy too

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

@mathstudent55

and thank you @Godlovesme for making the suggestion :)

OpenStudy (godlovesme):

anytime :)
