lets go slow because this is not that hard, okay?
OpenStudy (misty1212):
first of all, do you think the slope will be a positive number or a negative number?
OpenStudy (misty1212):
if you don't know that is okay, say so and i will tell you which it is,then we can find it
OpenStudy (anonymous):
a negative

@mathmath333
OpenStudy (mathmath333):
\[slope(m)=\frac{ y_1-y_2 }{ x_1-x_2 }\\(x_1,y_1)=(5,5)\\(x_2,y_2)=(10,1)\\\]
OpenStudy (anonymous):
in english please
OpenStudy (mathmath333):
its english
OpenStudy (anonymous):
idk how to do that

if u see ???? reload the page
OpenStudy (mathmath333):
can u tell what is \(y_1\)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
i can see it it just dont make sence to me
OpenStudy (mathmath333):
can u see the value of \(y_1\)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
5?

OpenStudy (mathmath333):
yes similarly \(y_2=1\)
so what is \(y_1-y_2\)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
(5,1)
OpenStudy (mathmath333):
\(5-1=?\)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
4
OpenStudy (mathmath333):
good so similarly
what is \(x_1-x_2\)

????????????/
OpenStudy (misty1212):
a picture to help you visualize what you are computing
OpenStudy (mathmath333):
no thats \(x_2-y_2\), retry
can u see \(x_1\) and \(x_2\)

that confused me this is soooooo confusing and frustrating 5-10=5
OpenStudy (mathmath333):
\(5-10=-5\)
so \(m=\dfrac{y_1-y_2}{x_1-x_2}\\
=\dfrac{5-1}{5-10}\\
=\dfrac{4}{-5}\\
\)
u have to convert it into decimal
OpenStudy (mathmath333):
\[\frac{ -4 \times 2}{ 5\times 2 }=\frac{ -8 }{ 10 }\]
OpenStudy (mathmath333):
can u convert it into decimal
OpenStudy (misty1212):
right \[\color{red}{five}\] units
down \[\color{blue}{four}\] units
slope is \[-\frac{\color{blue}4}{\color{red}5}\]
