I need answers medal and fan A set of equations is given below: Equation E: a = 5b + 1 Equation F: a = 3b + 4 Which statement describes a step that can be used to find the solution to the set of equations? Equation F can be written as 5b + 1 = 3b + 4. Equation F can be written as b + 1 = 3b + 4. Equation F can be written as a = 3(a − 1) + 4. Equation F can be written as a = 5(a − 4) + 1. I don't understand what it is asking me

OpenStudy (kamibug):

This is a system of equations...Both equations can be set equal to each other since they're both equal to "a" So what do you think? :)

OpenStudy (misty1212):

that is unfortunately not what the question is asking

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

KamiBug gave a pretty good hint for what the first step could be.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Lizzy, lost?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

substitute for a in equation F Equation E gives the value of a in terms of b

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

a simple example is a = 5b a = 3b + 2 so we can substitute for a in the second equation:- 5b = 3b + 2

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

its quite easy really if both 5b and 3b + 2 is equal to a then 5b must equal 3b + 2

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

so apply this reason to your question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think I'm lost in numbers

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

the above is very close to your question - only the numbers and terms in x are different

OpenStudy (phi):

this question is a bit difficult, but they want you to remember "solve by substitution" if you have Equation E: a = 5b + 1 Equation F: a = 3b + 4 the idea is "substitute" a with the "complicated version" For example, if we start with equation F a = 3b + 4 we replace "a" with its equivalent (from the *other equation*) 5b+1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok I think I get it

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

good!!
