Use the Factor Theorem to determine if the given binomial is a factor of the given polynomial function: f(x)=2x^3+x^2-5x+2;x-2
OpenStudy (dtan5457):
what's the binomial?
OpenStudy (jessicawade):
f(-2)=0; yes, the binomial is a factor of the polynomial.
f(2) not equalt to 0; the binomial is not a factor of the polynomial.
f(2)=0; yes, the binomial is a factor of the polynomial.
f(-2) not equal to 0; the binomial is not a factor of the polynomial.
OpenStudy (dtan5457):
aren't they suppose to give you a term?
OpenStudy (dtan5457):
like (x-1) or something?

i can probably do this if they gave you a binomial..
OpenStudy (dtan5457):
is it x-2?
OpenStudy (jessicawade):
not sure thats all the question is haha
OpenStudy (dtan5457):
Ok give me a sec. I think I got this.
OpenStudy (jessicawade):
Ok take your time :)

ok got it. you have to use synthetic division, ever heard of that?
OpenStudy (dtan5457):
your equation is 2x^3+x^2-5x+2
divide that with (x-2) synthetically
